its a really late post, because i was just too tired to even stay up last night. but i did it, Polly's Kitchen is the starting point of our Kokoda practise hike. it was a 27km mountain hike. the hike was fun, dangerously fun. XD
the hikes were incredible. steep uphills right from the start. im sorry i cant describe the scenery as all i did was, keep my head down and and walk, and walk, and walk. all i could see were rocks and sand under my feet, the loud pants that surround me and the sweat that trickles down my face and splashing on the red soil beneath. i knew that if i had looked up at my goal instead of the ground, i wouldnt have made it (mentally) and i may have slipped too.
the rest of the journey was fine too, exciting rushes down steep hills, cruising strolls through the forest, walking alongside cars (yeah we went onto the streets then back in the forest), then finally lunch break =D where i changed my socks and shirt (smelled really bad), and wow!! we have to backtrack our way to Polly's Kitchen XD (dont worry boys and girls, the teacher marked out arrows, so its ohk =]).
everything was a breeze, until we came back to that last mountain (or first mountain.. whatever). kept going up, and up, and up but it just never seemed to end. i had a few companions who shared the same fate as i did (we had cramps XD). and i must say, my friend Hoc or Blake Vu, was the inspiration or motivation which kept me going, with just the simplest words, "this is the top" then "this is the true top" then "this is the fake top" and followed by "this is the true top" for about a dozen times XD. but we did make it. but our souls turned to stone and shattered as we looked down the never ending hills.
ohk, 2 teenagers (Hoc/Blake Vu, me), one hungry little boy (Leon Le), no water left, only a few sweets, and a lot of rocks. we walked and walked and walked, but we just couldnt see the bottom, i had the most slips, minor slips where i fall on my ass and slide for a few centimetres, then the major slip, where i lose my footing. i had nothing to hold onto, nothing to stop me and i was on the verge of falling. so, i ran, i ran down the hill, like a mad monkey, i sprinted down the hill, overtaking both of my companions. and just when i thought i was going to face plant the ground, i made an impulsive move and ran for the bushes, i missed, and ran into a tree. it hurt, but im alive. the rest of the trip was more careful though. C:
but, theres always a happy ending, we made it to the bottom, had a little victory dance (in my mind) and candy celebration of our accomplishment. thank the lord.
oh, and when i took off my shoes and socks, i found a huge blood spot on my socks, it looked like a circle, about... idk... 5cm diameter. had no idea where it came from, judging by my socks, it was on my Achilles Tendon, cant see the mark, but i can see the blood. then later i found this... shrivelled up... thing.. is was big and black. thought it was crap, friend thought it was a cocoon. but, who knew, it turned out to be a leech XD. washed my ankle, and yeah, i was bitten by a leech.
life is like a box of chocolates =]
